Florence Area Humane Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to speaking for those who can't. Our mission is to exceed the needs of all animals great and small, mending their wounds, treating their illnesses, feeding their hunger, quelling their fears and above all righting the wrongs done to them by our fellow man.

It's almost time for the Kid's Jamboree!! It is January 28 & 29 at the Civic Center!

FAHS will have a booth there, 11:00 - 4:00 each day.

Teresa and I would like to personally thank everyone that came out to support the Florence Area Humane Society at the first Canines in Costume for a Cause Howl-o-ween Benefit.  I don't think we could have had better weather.  The vendors set up awesome tables/booths and the food was great.  I think everyone enjoyed watching the flyball demo and the one dog frisbee contest.  And who could forget Tater the kissing bulldog.  Thanks to all of the volunteers that came out to help and to Billy the DJ for donating his time.  Special thanks goes to Madisyn Lutcken for raising $400 in pledge money for the pledge walk.
Thanks to the  photographers that covered the event and are still running their contest until Oct. 31st.  Check it out and vote at
www.casualimages.biz.  (All of these proceeds will be added to the total money raised). Finally, but most importantly, thanks to all of you dogs that dressed up and dragged your owners out.  We love you.  If we forgot anyone, we apologize.  Being the first Howl-o-ween benefit, we realize we have some kinks to work out.  So please send your suggestions to help make this a better and bigger event next year to liz9358@msn.com.
And if anyone wants to set up a booth next year with dog related products or services, please let me know. Thanks again and have a Happy Howl-o-ween. -- Elizabeth Parrish

Greenwood Elementary School students rallied to bring in food and supplies for the many puppies and kittens at the Florence Area Humane Society. Their project, “Cause for Paws,” was generated by the students and teachers at Greenwood in a heartfelt effort to help the large numbers of homeless animals currently at the shelter.
The project was open to all grade levels. The classroom that brings in the most items for the “Cause” will win a prize and a visit from some of the puppies at the shelter! The students could also purchase Paw tattoos and Paw bracelets to show their love for the Humane Society animals!
