New Colt Born
You can help name him!

It's a happy ending and a new beginning for rescued horse Angel. On May 5th she delivered a beautiful, healthy colt at the Florence County farm where she is now resides.

Angel was one of 26 animals seized from a property in Dillon County in December, 2011. She was pretty far along in her pregnancy when rescued from the deplorable conditions. Animal control officers said many of the animals were in pens where the feces and mud was high enough to cover their hocks and some developed rotting of the feet as a result. Humane Society volunteers who also helped with the rescue said that they couldn't see any visible food on site and animal were chewing on the plastic wrappers that littered the yard, or tree
saplings. In all, workers rescued 11 horses, four mules, four donkeys and seven hogs.

Angel was one of the animals
that stood out most in the
mind of rescuers, many who
knew that she was pregnant,
but had no idea how far along
she was or if she would even
be able to carry her baby to
term.

After several months spent
recuperating at a Florence
County farm, Angel surprised
everyone by delivering a
healthy colt.

"We are very grateful to the community because without their support, there is just no
way that we could take in animals like these and they come out of desperate situations, just desperate," said Jayne Boswell FAHS President. "Miracles do happen and the prayers for these animals was heard and answered and we're just grateful."

We are looking for the perfect name for this baby. Please submit suggestions through the contact link below. Next weekend we will let readers vote on the top five names.
